Choosing Between SLA, SLS, Metal AM and Vacuum Casting

A simple process-selection guide for prototypes, functional parts and low-volume manufacturing projects.

Start with the purpose of the part

The right manufacturing process depends less on the name of the technology and more on what the part must prove. A cosmetic prototype, a durable functional part and a small production batch can require very different routes.

Before requesting a quote, define whether the priority is appearance, strength, tolerance, heat resistance, flexibility, quantity or speed.

Typical process fit

SLA resin printing is usually best for detail, surface quality and presentation models. SLS or MJF nylon is often better for functional prototypes and robust end-use plastic parts.

Metal additive manufacturing is reserved for complex metal geometry or specialized engineering parts, while vacuum casting is useful for small batches of production-like polyurethane components.
